FEATURE LISTING: Kingswood villa fit for royalty

Located in the heart of Kingswood, this stone facade, return-verandah villa has hit the market for the first time in four years, complete with an open plan living area, a lap pool and a feature outdoor fireplace.

Elly Stewart, a cook at Nettle & Knead bakery on Duthy Street, and her family have called 56 East Parade, Kingswood home for the past four years.

Elly tells SALIFE they were initially drawn to “the beautiful house and garden surrounds”.

“We moved from Unley and we loved having more space in Kingswood with a young, growing family,” she says.

“The location is close to the Mitcham shops, a lot of parks, and schools. And then the house, just the beauty and grandeur of the 1915 house.”

Upon entering the property, you will pass through the immaculately landscaped garden before making your way to the stone facade, return-verandah villa.

Elm trees feature prominently in the garden, giving 56 East Parade its nickname “Elm House”.

“I know the previous owners from us lived in it for a long time and raised their family here and they all still live close by,” says Elly.

“They were in a landscaping business and developed the garden to the beauty that it is now.”

As you step off the verandah, you will enter the front passageway, with its soaring ceilings reaching 3.6 metres high.

To the right, you will find one of four bedrooms, with an original fireplace and polished wooden floorboards.

To the left is a formal living area with the potential to be transformed into a fifth bedroom.

Making your way through to the open-plan living, kitchen, and dining area, you will pass by the master suite, which has an ensuite and access to the front verandah.

This, along with the landscaped gardens, is Elly’s favourite part of the property.

The house also includes a separate children’s bathroom, a spacious laundry, a butler’s pantry, a gym, a cellar and a large garage.

Stepping outdoors, you will find a lap pool with its feature stone wall, as well as the pavilion dining area, showcasing its statement stone fireplace.

Building on the previous owner’s hard work, Elly says a priority of the renovation was to redevelop the “underutilised large backyard so it was a lot more open plan and accessible from the house”.

“It now ties in beautifully to the pool and outdoor terrace and then the new fireplace, outdoor eating terrace,” she says.

“We really developed the outdoor living that is now so key and important to homes; we built a backyard fireplace and terrace and converted the shed to a gym or rumpus room, plus still keeping garage space and a workshop.”

Despite having “loved every minute” of living in their Kingswood home, the Stewarts now plan to move interstate to be closer to family.

“Our families are in Victoria, so we’ve decided, with children leaving primary school, to make the move back to be with family,” says Elly.

Elly says she will miss the “resort style living” of the house with “the size of the property, gardens and the local neighbourhood”.

The sale of 56 East Parade, Kingswood is being handled by Orlanda Paglia and Stephanie Williams from Williams Real Estate, with expressions of interest closing on August 27.
