FEATURE PROPERTY: Living the high life at Rostrevor

Offering a life in the clouds and spectacular elevated views of Adelaide, surgeon Denby Steele is selling his stunning modern home at Rostrevor with the added bonuses of a swimming pool and a superb cinema room.

It might be a tad too far to make out the sails of yachts gliding across the gulf, but the view across the Adelaide plains from the balcony of 1 Yalpara Avenue is hard to beat.

Owner Denby Steele, a urological surgeon and sailing enthusiast, says being able to see the coastline across the Adelaide skyline is one of his favourite features of the elevated location.

“It’s fantastic to be able to look down to the coast and out to sea,” says Denby.

“It’s too far away to see anything in particular but, as a sailor, I like to be able to see the coastline and from here you can see the entire length of it.

“It’s a lovely place, in amongst the trees in the hills. I’ll miss driving home every day to that wow factor with the open-plan space and the view.

“Being able to lie in bed looking out over Adelaide is pretty special.”

On a block of 1092sqm, the home features four bedrooms, two bathrooms and open-plan living spaces with floor-to-ceiling windows.

And, when days aren’t conducive for gazing at the view, there’s an acoustically-treated cinema room with upholstered seats and a sound system.

“The cinema room is very good and the kids had a great time with it, although I have to say, I hardly ever used it because I am so busy working,” says Denby.

The house is oriented so that there is no shortage of incredible views from the western aspect.

The living spaces and the master bedroom capture the twilight sky, while the balcony and entertaining pavilion – adjoining the pool on the southern side – ensure occupants are able to make the most of the sweeping vistas.

“I think the home suits a family with children or teenagers because they have their whole wing with their own bedrooms and bathroom,” says Denby.

“At one stage we turned one of the bedrooms into a playroom and TV room.”

Denby instantly connected with the property in 2017 – it was the first one he inspected after looking online.

“It just instantly appealed to me,” he says. “It was modern and spacious and had an open floor plan with unrivalled views over Adelaide.”

The home boasts a striking timber-clad facade with highlight windows and an entrance alcove enclosed in painted steel.

The kitchen is well-appointed for family meals but particularly shines for entertaining, with a four-metre bench, Miele ovens, dishwasher and built-in wine cabinet.

An outdoor kitchen features a stainless steel built-in barbeque, sink and rangehood with ceramic bar heaters, gas fireplace and ceiling fans for year-round comfort.

The home also contains a study, gym room and three-car garage.

It also features oodles of modern technology with Bose speakers to living areas and outdoor entertaining area, intercom, video surveillance and alarm system.

It’s hard to fault the spectacular home, but buyers should beware that it does come with one possible inconvenience: a mob of Kangaroos occasionally decide to loiter on the driveway when you’re trying to drive into the garage.

“We have kangaroos on the drive sometimes, it’s occasionally a nuisance, but if they stop you halfway up you’ve just got to wait for them to move.”

The property is being sold by Sally Cameron of Toop+Toop Real Estate.
