FEATURE LISTING: Timeless luxury villa with a grand modern twist

Behind its timeless stone facade, this grand Unley Park home boasts modern luxury across three levels and is on the market for the first time since it was constructed in 2013.

For current co-owner Peter, it was always a dream of his to build his own home.

“It has long been a dream of mine to oversee the construction of our own house, so this was a realisation of that dream,” he says.

“The reason we ultimately chose to build was so that we had control over which trades we chose and used and, of course, the selection of materials and finishes.”

Peter had a clear vision of what he wanted and was heavily involved in the entire design and construction process.

“We took a great bunch of ideas and photographs and thoughts to a draughtsman and he just simply drew it for us,” he says.

Located on the tree-lined Elm Street, this dwelling is in a prime location, close to shops and restaurants on King William Road and highly sought-after public and private schools.

Although the traditional facade blends in seamlessly with other houses on this historic street, it can’t be mistaken for a heritage villa.

“The facade was something that we agonised over for a long time,” says Peter.

“We didn’t want something ultra-modern, or perhaps something that in 10 years might feel a bit dated. So, we tried to go for a look that was a little more timeless and classic.”

Upon entering the front door, there are strikingly modern interiors that were selected with help from Angela Gianakis from Outside Square.

On the ground floor are three bedrooms and a master suite, which is complete with a study and ensuite with access to the alfresco dining area and pool.

On this level, there is also the library, living areas, a laundry and two bathrooms.

“I love the spaciousness of the kitchen and the living-dining area – the way it opens out onto the alfresco area and overlooks the pool … it offers just a fantastic casual living space,” says Peter.

A lift provides access to the basement where there is a spacious home theatre and cellar, as well as a large garage that has enough room for an entire collection of vintage cars. This space is one of Peter’s favourite areas of the home.

Peter says the property is fitted with modern insulation and double glazing throughout the house, a 12.8-kilowatt solar array, a Tesla Battery and the potential to be self-reliant on rainwater supply

He says that what he will miss most about 9 Elm Street is the location, the space and the quality of the build.

“It’s very rare to find properties that are built to the quality and standards that this one is,” he says.

The sale of 9 Elm Street, Unley Park is being handled by Grant Giordano and Jacqui Ilicic from Giordano & Partners.
